Question
We are in West Michigan and have a 15' pine tree that is 10 years old. The middle of the tree is dead, but the top and bottom are fine. What could be causing this?
Answer
Can you attach a picture. I can not picture in my mind what you are describing. If you are saying that the inner needles are turning brown then this is normal. Pines have tow sets of needles and hold their needles for tow years. They lose the older needles and the outer needles are green. Next spring they will put on a second set of needles. If this is what you are seeing this is ok.
