plum tree

Question

I have a plum tree that is 4 years old and had a few blossoms this year but no plums.  I fertilized with 10-10-10 in the spring.  I dont know whether to prune it or not, it is getting tall and lanky.  Any help you can give me would be appreciated. I am in zone 5.

Answer
Yes plum tree should be pruned to produce more fruit. Pruning should be done in June on a dry day to prevent the introduction of a disease called silver leaf disease.

Here is a web link that describes the pruning process for plums. http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/fruit_veg_mini_project_march_2e_pl...
